Rae, like Dosanjh and BC's own current Carol James, all typify and speak to a process of "Liberalization" (As in Liberal Party) which has been at work in the NDP for a very long time-, certainly over the course of time since Tommy Douglas in his Saskatchewan heyday.
Bob Rae is a class act, and he was right to abandon the party and union members who abandoned him so cruelly in the 1990s.

In the subtext of his piece, you can almost hear Rae saying that the federal surplus should be spent, and since it is to be spent, he’d love to be the one spending it because he knows precisely what to spend it on.
InĀ  light of the magic that Rae performed on the Ontario economy while he was premier, his mere suggestion that he would do better with any public purse shows that the man is either an amnesiac or a shameless man.

Years ago when Bob Rae was administering his socialistic rules as Ontario's premier, Barbara Amiel in her then Toronto Sun column, referred to Rae as crypto-communist.
Bob Rae, the stupidest man in the history of Canadian politics, would have the distinction of being the worst premier in history if the title hadn't been nailed down unchallengeably by Howard Pawley.
