Bob Varsha (born April 21, 1951 in Northport, New York) is one of the more prominent on-air personalities for SPEED Channel.
Varsha is presently the host of the network's live Formula 1 coverage.
Varsha then went on to practice law in Atlanta, but his life took a different direction when TBS asked him to cover a footrace in Atlanta in 1980.

So it was for 19-year old Atlanta racer Matt Varsha, who drove his Racers Edge Motorsports-prepared entry to second place at round five of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear on the Canadian Grand Prix weekend in Montreal, Canada.
Varsha was gridded fifth (based on season points), leapt ahead to second at the start and narrowly avoided a massive wreck on the first lap that took out fifteen of the 42 starters.
The Montreal finish boosted Varsha to fourth in the championship with seven rounds remaining.

Bob has definitely improved his knowledge of cycling from last year.
I remember Frankie Andreu mentioning that Bob Varsha was brought in for the "Preview of the 2001 Tour" special (with J Vaughters and Bob Roll that aired about 500 times) because he knew how to pull a "live" show together within the tight timelines on TV.

Give B. Varsha a break already, so maybe he is not Joe Cycling, but I thought he did a decent job.
With that said, I do like you Bob and I'd like you to stay, but I'd also like the American public to get a truest feel of the race delivered as cleanly as possible so that more people will be drawn to the sport we love.
Yes, I know we can all do better than the Bob Varshas of this world, or whoever else who does not seem to know one rider from another, or anything about the fine details of bikes, or bike racing.

He was a practicing attorney in Atlanta when he accepted Turner Broadcasting’s offer to help cover a foot race in 1980, leading him into a broadcast career that has included calling Formula 1, sports car racing and CART in addition to a variety of Olympic sports.

Those were the teams the camera crews for this show were following, and they couldn't have followed every team in the race nor known who was going to finish where beforehand.

At the end of 2006, DC and Schumacher would leave Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen would be the new #1 driver.
Bob Varsha although my favorite racing commentator of all time, seems to be slipping a little bit as of late.
