Bio: Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul started forming up Damageplan in early 2003, soon after the demise of their previous band, thrash metal heroes Pantera.
The lineup was completed with the addition of local bassist Bob Kakaha, who was immediately dubbed Bob Zilla for his monstrous tone, and the quartet began hashing out the new material under the working title of New Found Power.
By October 2003 they'd decided on Damageplan, with New Found Power becoming the name of their Elektra debut.

It was cool to interject on top of one another like that, and bleed off each other as a part of the creative process.
We had seen Bob play in various local bands, along with various styles of music.
We knew he had the diversity, and he still had the same heavy influences we had grown up on, not to mention, he's one hell of a tattoo artist too.

 Damageplan : interview
This interview with Damageplan's bassist Bob Zilla and drummer Vinnie Paul was conducted shortly before Dimebag's tragic murder.
Once Dimebag and Vinnie realised that Anselmo and Brown were only interested in pursuing their moonlighting projects like Down and Superjoint Ritual, they moved quickly to start afresh, forming Damageplan with former Halford guitarist Pat Lachman on vocals and their friend (and tattoist!) Bob Zilla on bass.
Zilla still seems to be revelling at playing with such living heavy metal legends:

Conjured up in Arlington, Texas during January 2003, this post PANTERA outfit of guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul went under the working title of NEW FOUND POWER for many months, finally deciding upon DAMAGEPLAN in October.
However, Matthews would be out of the picture prior to the name change and Hawaii native Bob 'Zilla' Kakaha, a man citing dubious credentials with 80's Rapper VANILLA ICE, took up the role.
Studio guests for the February 2004 debut album included SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor donating vocals to the track 'Fuck You', JERRY CANTRELL and OZZY OSBOURNE and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist ZAKK WYLDE lending his distinctive skills to 'Soulbleed' and 'Reborn'.

Pantera was heavy metal the only way it could've been in the early/mid 1990s: dirty and crunchy, mostly due to the driving combo of guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul.
The two return with New Found Power as Damageplan, 14 fresh ideas with Pat Lachman (vocals) and Bob Zilla (bass) now on board.
Common with many new projects, the record sees a band still finding its direction, often resulting in uninspiring metal that is too forced.
