Bobby Militello is a jazz saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist from Buffalo, New York.
He has played with Maynard Ferguson and Dave Brubeck, and is active in his hometown's music scene.
Militello has done some great work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, especially 'London Flat, London Sharp' (2005).

Militello is an interesting case study in the cruel science of underrecognition.
In that context, Militello's alto tended to be passed over as a Paul Desmond proxy, even though his use of crowded Coltraneish flurries are a world apart from Desmond.
Militello's playing is unfailingly well-paced in its movement and attack, and endowed with lyricism, density and passion.

Bobby Militello is a different player type of player to Paul Desmond.
Militello is power player, if Charlie Parker was still with us I can imagine that he would play in a similar style.
Bobby Militello is not a musician that I know a lot about, but on this showing he is as good an alto player as you will here on today’s jazz scene and his empathy with Brubeck’s piano playing is entire.

Militello freelanced in Buffalo (1981-1984) and Los Angeles (1984-1992), playing with the Bill Holman and Bob Florence Orchestras.
Bobby Militello, who has recorded with Holman, Florence, Ferguson, and Charlie Shoemake, among others, has played on and off with Brubeck since 1983 (usually alternating with Bill Smith) and has led several of his own albums for Positive.

After the dazzling opener, the group settles into a laid-back swing on “To Sit and Dream.” On both, Militello carries the main melody on alto sax while Brubeck stirs up some delightful piano solos, complemented by Jones on drums and Moore on double bass.
Some of the songs were featured on Brubeck’s 40th Anniversary Tour of the UK, including “London Flat, London Sharp,” so named because during part of that tour, the group stayed in London apartments (flats), which Brubeck said was sharp after previously complaining about their accommodations.

John Cassel also took the performance to heart and established lasting friendships with Bobby Militello and Tony "Rome." Over the course of the next year Boy and Tony left Maynard's band and relocated to Vermont.
The Cassel Band along with Militello and Romano established residence at Dick Longfellow's Recording Studio in Northfield, Vermont, and work began on what would end up being a 25 year project.
