Clemson, SC - Bobby Robinson, who has served Clemson University for over 30 years, including the most recent 17 as athletic director, was presented the Order of the Palmetto in the Governor's Office at the State Capital in Columbia on Wednesday, April 17, 2002.
Robinson is the first employee of the athletic department to be presented the Order of the Palmetto since Bob Bradley received the honor on October 28, 2000.

At the height of this success, Robinson was sued by Savoy Records who, unknown to Bobby, had Wilbert Harrison under a 5 year contract that was to expire in August 1959, the "Kansas City" record came out in March 1959.

On June 24, 1998, the decedent, Bobby J. Robinson, was incarcerated in the Randolph County Jail on charges of obstructing an officer, assault of a police officer, battery of a police officer, and twice violating a domestic violence restraining order that had been filed against him by his wife.
Robinson's “dangerous situation” and to ask the sheriff “to be alert to the possibility of suicide.” Thereafter, on September 3, 1998, while still incarcerated in the county jail, Bobby Robinson committed suicide.
Robinson's mental condition and the risk that he would commit suicide, yet they failed to provide him with sufficient medical treatment and further failed to take appropriate actions to prevent his suicide.
