Lloyd Bochner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Over the years Bochner continued to portray a variety of roles in television and film, from a warlock on Bewitched to a homosexual doctor coming out at middle age in the 1977 TV-movie Terraces, to Pia Zadora's abusive screenwriter husband in the camp classic film The Lonely Lady.
A typical and very famous Bochner role was that of the scheming 'Cecil Colby' on Dynasty (TV series), in part due to his notorious death scene (he suffered a heart attack while having sex with Alexis Carrington, and later died in his hospital bed seconds after marrying her).
Bochner continued to appear in television series for the next few decades, doing frequent voiceover work for the animated cartoon version of Batman.

Harvard University Art Museums - Press Releases, 2002
Although Bochner is widely considered among the pioneers of Conceptual art, the depth of his engagement with photography in the mid-to-late-1960s remains little known.
However, Bochner came to realize that the camera was not the impartial, "objective" tool he had imagined and that it could never perfectly illustrate an artistic concept without adding unforeseen distortions or accidents of color, shadow, scale, or perspective to the final print.
Bochner's photographs are full of surprises, and they are rarely limited to the standard rectangular format one associates with fl-and-white photography from the period.

 Bochner biography
Bochner's family suffered, as did the majority of Germans, and although he fervently wished to pursue an academic career in mathematics, he felt that he had to support his family through the difficult times.
Bochner lectured at the University of Munich from 1924 to 1933, submitting an outstanding habilitation dissertation on almost periodic functions in 1927.
Bochner found that the Riemann Localisation Theorem was not valid for Fourier series of several variables (1935-1936), which led him indirectly to consider functions of several complex variables (1937).

Scott Rothkopf explores the crucial role of photography in Bochner's artistic development as well as key issues in the relation of photography to Minimal and Conceptual art.
In Bochner's photography, Rothkopf argues, a clear arc can be traced from his grappling with Minimalism toward a more rigorous and nuanced articulation of Conceptual art.
For Bochner and others, Rothkopf concludes, photography was used as a response to the limits of minimal sculpture and helped make possible the birth of Conceptual art.
