Bodos, indigenous to the subcontinent, are hill tribals of Mongol extraction who inhabit the northern plains region of Assam.
Bodos are fervently proud of their heritage and culture and have increasingly felt that their own culture and language is threatened by Assamese dominance.
The Bodos have also demanded that the central government recognize Bodo as one of India's national languages and that Bodo be declared as the official language in Bodo areas.

Delhi had promised to consider the demand for ST (Hill) status to the Bodos of Karbi Anglong in its February 10 accord with the militant Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT).
The Bodo community’s feeling of being discriminated against stems from the fact that there are as many as 14 plains tribes in Assam and members of each of these groups can settle in the BTC-administered areas and enjoy the same rights and privileges.
The only consolation for the Bodo community is that their language is just a step away from becoming the 19th one to receive constitutional recognition.

Although the AGP government attempted to treat Bodo tribals and other minority groups (within Assam) as part of greater Assamese society, the Bodos opposed the policy because (they perceive) they are the most backward of the various tribes as a result of submersion.
Bodo movements mainly resorted to violent tactics, including attacks on public buildings and railroads, as they believe that violence is the only avenue for minorities to attract the attention of the central government.

The Hamlet of Bodo, Alberta (two following photos) is located near the southeastern part of M.D. No. 52 and has a population of approximately 30 people.
The community is home to heavy crude oil and has drawn interest over the years for experimental processes like steam injection to the the valuable resource out of the ground.
Private archeologists working at a dig near Bodo were impressed with what they discovered and say the find will likely be declared a “significant archeological site” by the Alberta government.

Guwahati, April 9 (IANS): The Assam government has banned the new Bollywood movie "Tango Charlie" on the ground that it defames the tribal Bodo community.
Members of the community say director Mani Shankar, who also scripted the film, erred in many ways in his depiction of the Bodos in "Tango Charlie" and that the film is poorly researched and distorts facts.
Bodo rebels have been waging a long-running campaign to establish a separate state within the Indian union for the community but they have never set up any bases in Manipur as shown in "Tango Charlie".

There is a central fire pit and wood is supplied by the community.
The only public telephone booth was removed several years ago for lack of use, and the local corner store has recently closed down (although it may be re-opened for the summer months).

The Bodo Archeological Society met in the Bodo Community Centre on Thursday night and welcomed two archeologists who have been working on the Bodo site and are now working with the new society.
May said that some work had been done on a web site for the Bodo dig while Gibson, speaking for the U of A says that the Bodo site is a relatively cheap one for students to attend to take some archeology courses hands-on.
The Bodo Archeological Society is trying to find $120,000 to help pay for a backlog of cataloguing, analysis and reporting required by Alberta Community Development before it issues new excavation and research permits for the Bodo sites.
