Named after the founder of the Boeing Company, William E. Boeing, it was Seattle's main passenger airport from its construction until Seattle-Tacoma International Airport began operations in the late 1940s, with the exception of the World War II period, when it was taken over by the U.S. government.
Boeing continues to use the field for testing and delivery of its airplanes, and it is still a major regional cargo hub.
A proposal by Southwest Airlines in June 2005 was submitted to King County to relocate their operations in the Seattle area from Sea-Tac to Boeing Field, but was rejected by King County Executive Ron Sims in October.

I usually fly past Auburn on the east side of the field, since the Auburn traffic pattern is to the west, and the SeaTac Bravo is awfully close by on the west side of the airport.
If your destination is Boeing Field, you will want to avoid flying directly over the tall buildings in downtown Seattle (some of them are filled with paranoid people and TV news reporters), so plan to swing either west or east of the downtown skyline.
