Currently fund is being raised for the necessary restoration.

 How to reach ELIS   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
ELIS is in the Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 41, near the university's "Boekentoren" (refer to B on the map).
This map is also available in a color postscript version (this postscript-map is not 100% up-to-date: modify red lines near "Gent Zuid").
INW (Instituut voor Nucleaire Wetenschappen) is situated in Proeftuinstraat 86, 9000 Gent.

 IPEM: Contact
IPEM is located next to the big Ghent University library tower ("boekentoren" in Dutch) built by the famous Belgian architect Henri Vandevelde.
Most of the inner part is car-free anyway (but not the part where IPEM is located).
Once you have made it to the Rozier, the best thing to do is climb the stairs of the main entrance opposite the "boekentoren".

Each stamp shows the architect's effigy next to an important building he designed.
"La nouvelle maison" (the New House) from Tervuren (1927-28), the pavilion of the World Exhibition in Paris (1937) and the "Boekentoren" (Book Tower) of Gent (1933-38) all represent constructions by the modernistic architect.

We can situate this as art within a socio-cultural context.
The location is one of the historical modernist and interbellum buildings in Ghent and is known as the "boekentoren".
The whole building was designed and constructed by Henry Van de Velde, and conceived as a new kind of library where science and arts could meet.
