During the last exhibition five years ago(1998), experts discovered that some of the rubies on the crown -- which were thought to have been among the largest in the world -- are not in fact real.
After 1918 and the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic the Coronation Jewels ceased to serve their original function, but remained important as symbols of national independence and statehood.
