As of the 2000 Census the county had a population of 6,670 (2005 estimate: 7,535) [1].
The Boise Basin, in which Idaho City lies, was one of the richest gold mining districts in the nation after the discovery of gold in 1862.
In the county the population was spread out with 26.90% under the age of 18, 4.70% from 18 to 24, 27.10% from 25 to 44, 30.30% from 45 to 64, and 11.00% who were 65 years of age or older.

Both Boise City and Ada County refused to recognize the GUARDIAN as a viable source of news and information, citing the issue of “credentials.” There is no agency in Idaho which licenses or issues press credentials to the media…a fact Ms.
Boise City and Ada County should be begging to put people on their lists but these two entities use News Releases to try to control the news that does and does not get covered by the media, rather than to inform.
Although this only defines the restrictions the state has placed upon itself, counties, and cities, regarding the "qualifications of newspapers printing legal notices" (the actual title of the statute) - a sound arguement could be made that political subdivisions of the state shouldn't be referring the general public to non-qualifying publications for any information.

Ada County officials are flexing their paramedic muscles with a proposed ordinance that attempts to prohibit fire departments in the county from providing ambulance service to citizens.
Boise Deputy Fire Chief Dave Hanneman said while the fire chiefs were unanimous in in their opposition to the proposed ordinance changes, their reasons were varied.
Boise cites their “comprehensive plan” as authority to keep the road small, but all legal authority seems to say the plan is just that—a guide which has no real authority.
