 VAI Bokaro
Through the application and subsequent optimization of advanced process models and technological control systems at the hot-strip mill of Bokaro Steel Ltd. (Bokaro, India), it was possible to extend the dimensional range of the hot-rolled products from the original design thickness of 1.5 mm down to 1.2 mm, while simultaneously increasing the maximum rolled thickness.
Following the start-up of the originally supplied automation system by VAI in 1998, it was soon recognized that the prediction accuracy of the model was so good that the mill could exceed the original design limits.
The most important factor in successfully reducing the minimum thickness is the highly accurate prediction of the process parameters over the entire length of the hot-rolled strip in combination with an optimally designed and fine-tuned technological control system.
