Radaxian » Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django
Boktai: The Sun is in your Hand did not just stand out for being one of the most unique games of the generation, it was an all-time classic thanks to an ingenious blend of gameplay styles and innovation.
Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django, which Konami released one year and one month later (when the weather has already grown too cold to play outside over much of the continent), rather surprisingly shook up the formula which was so successful in the first outing.
In Boktai 2 there is little incentive to sneak around and ambush your enemies, and lacking your precious Gun del Sol from the first game - doing so is simply not very enjoyable anyway.

Boktai is the story of Django- a young man undertaking the family business of hunting vampires.
The sensor is able to differentiate between sunlight and artificial light and registers the strength of the sunlight that it is exposed to (playing at 9:00 am wouldn't register the same light strength as playing at high-noon).
Through a solar sensor built into its cartridge, Boktai is able to quantify the presence of direct sunlight and use that value to determine the extent of Django's abilities.

Boktai: The Sun Is In Your Hand - GameCritics.com
The theme put forward in Boktai is that the sun represents life and all the good things that come with it, in contrast with the decay and darkness of the immortals and undead.
During the course of Boktai, the player is literally forced to go outside and stand in the sun to fill the in-game light meter via the solar panel, not only to charge up the hero's gun, but to win boss battles that require exposing the creatures to sunlight.
Boktai is obviously Kojima's baby, and the fact that such a daring (and therefore financially risky) product can get released is a testament to the fact that name-recognition is slowly becoming more of an influence in videogame publication.

RPGamer - Preview - Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django
Despite the rather lukewarm reception of Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand for the Game Boy Advance back in September 2003, publisher Konami has decided to import the sequel, Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django for North American release.
Boktai 2 follows the mission of the vampire hunter Django in his quest to destroy the undead that plague the town of San Miguel.
Despite many critics panning the Boktai series for its sometimes annoying necessity to play it at least partially in daylight, it is difficult to argue the fact that the series is one of a kind.

Boktai will forever be known as the game that had the solar sensor, but gamers will be happy to know the game behind the gimmick still provides a great gaming experience.
The sunlight requirement, Boktai's mainstay, may prove a minor annoyance as the sensor detects UV rays in sunlight and not the light itself (meaning any artificial or electric lighting is out of the picture).
Voicing has always been scarce in portable titles, but Boktai features a wealth of voice clips throughout the game, and they are some of the best found in the GBA titles I've played.

Boktai follows Django, a young boy following in his father's footsteps as a sort of vampire hunter.
It's main purpose is to fuel the game's weapon: players wield a pistol that harnesses the energy from the sun, and as players blast away with this weapon, its ammo, sunlight energy, is depleted, and it can only be replenished with either direct sunlight or sunlight stored within batteries scattered around the levels.
