		Bolgatanga, colloquially known as Bolga, is the capital of both the Bolgatanga Municipal District and the Upper East Region of Ghana, and has a population of about 50,000 (2000.
		David Apasera (PNC) is the Parliamentary Representative for the Bolgatanga Municipal District (as of 2006).
		Historically Bolgatanga was situated at the terminus of the ancient Trans-Saharan trade route.

		Bolgatanga, Aug. 18, GNA - Mr Rex Asanga, a contestant in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the Bolgatanga Constituency, has called on his supporters to campaign and vote for the Deputy Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways, Dr Adombire Geyshika Agambilla, who defeated him.
		Speaking at a meeting in Bolgatanga to plan strategies to rally support for the Party, Mr Asanga praised his supporters for their tireless efforts in canvassing for him prior to the primaries, accepting the shocking results and remaining calm and tolerant in spite of provocations.
		The meeting, which was attended by the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Rockson Ayine Bukari, was widely speculated to be a public relations strategy adopted by Mr Asanga and the MCE to clear the air about speculations that they were masterminding a campaign against Dr Agambilla.

		The geographical land area of Bolgatanga is not fertile enough for extensive agricultural activities.
		Coupled with an erratic rainfall pattern and generally harsh weather conditions, handicraft activities such as basket weaving, leather work and pottery are undertaken mostly by the women to supplement their incomes from the subsistence of farming activities.
		With a population of about 225,000, only 10,000 people from 19 communities possess the basket weaving skill in Bolgatanga, which has been passed on from generation to generation in the community.
