National Bolshevism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
National Bolshevism is an ideology that attempts to combine elements of fascism and Stalinism.
Influenced heavily by the idea of geopolitics, National Bolshevism seeks a merger between Russia and the rest of Europe in a union to be known as Eurasia.
However, strictly speaking, Solzhenitsyn cannot be labeled a National Bolshevik since, whilst he was not anti-authoritarian, he wished a revival of Russian culture that would see a greater role for the Russian Orthodox Church and a withdrawal of Russia from its role overseas into a state of international isolationism.

Bolshevism, however, is only a political tendency, closely fused with the working class but not identical with it.

Anti-Capitalism or State Capitalism? Globalize Bolshevism? : SF Indymedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
That Bolshevism bases itself on centralised, large scale industry because it is more "economic" suggests nothing less than that its "socialism" will be based on the same dehumanising and anti-ecological priorities as capitalism.
For Bolshevism, "All Power to the Soviets" meant, in practice, "All Power to the Party through the Soviets." As Lenin made clear in 1917, it was the Bolsheviks who would "take over full state power," not the working class as a whole.
For this reason anarchists have argued for a bottom-up federation of workers' councils as the agent of revolution and the means of managing society after capitalism and the state have been abolished.

Goebbels On National-Socialism, Bolshevism, and Democracy
The fact that the causes and effective potentialities of Bolshevism were already existent in a latent form in democracy explains why Bolshevism flourishes only on democratic soil, and is indeed generally the inevitable consequence of a radical and excessively democratic conception of the State.
It enables us to see at once why democracy and Bolshevism, which in the eyes of the world are irrevocably opposed to one another, meet again and again on common ground in their joint hatred of and attacks on authoritarian nationalist concepts of State and State systems.
Bolshevism is in a sense the bad boy of democracy.

These eight points were indeed brief on one important thing – the closest they came to addressing the political and programmatic differences between Trotskyism and Stalinism was in point 5 which mentioned internationalist opposition to socialism in one country along with other unspecified positions.
The CPGB need to explain where they stand on the central programmatic distortions of Bolshevism by the Stalinists and the defence of that Bolshevik programme by Trotsky (programmatic distortions which lead, where they had any significant influence, to real material disasters for the working class).

As far as the prohibition of other Soviet parties is concerned, it did not flow from any 'theory' of Bolshevism but was a measure of defence of the dictatorship on a backward and devastated country, surrounded by enemies on all sides.

NATIONAL-BOLSHEVISM   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
The term “bolshevism” has at first appeared, as it is well known, during the discussions in RSDRP (Russian Social Democratic Labour (Worker’s) Party) as a definition for the fraction, which took the part of Lenin.
Almost immediately after the revolution the term “bolshevism” has lost it’s limited meaning and has become to be perceived as a synonym for the “majority”, “all-national policy”, “national integration” (“bolshevik” can be approximately translated from Russian as a ‘representative of the majority’).
At a certain stage the “bolshevism” was perceived as purely Russian, national version of communism and socialism, opposed to the abstract dogmatics of the abstract Marxists and, simultaneously, to the conformist tactics of other social-democratic trends).

 Bolshevism and Stalinism
To understand Bolshevism, and in a narrower sense Stalinism, it is not enough to follow the superficial and often silly controversies between Stalinists and Trotskyites.
That they were forced upon the Bolsheviks by the 'counter-revolutionary' activity of all non-bolshevik labour organisations, as Trotsky maintains, can not of course explain their further increase after the crushing of the various nonconformist organisations.
And thus the ugly sides of Bolshevism under Lenin, as well as under Stalin, find their chief and final cause in capitalism's enmity to Bolshevism which, if it is a monster, is only a reluctant monster, killing and torturing in mere self-defence.

There are few important currents in the history of the 20th century which are not influenced by an ideological oscillation between Marxian revolution and the '"conservative revolution" as it was conceived at the end of the nineteenth century by various thinkers, of whom Georges Sorel is perhaps the best known.
It is thus quite natural that National Bolshevism, in that oscillation brilliantly described by Faye, anticipated so many monsters of the modern world: Bolshevism in decay, for its part, would take care of the rest.
National Bolshevism is also linked to the mythological renaissance of the late 19th century, culminating in Nietzsche.

 David Brandenberger [NB Abstract]
National Bolshevism is an investigation of the paradoxical emergence of a popular sense of Russian national identity during the Stalin epoch.
Situated at the intersection of an array of contemporary debates, National Bolshevism is designed for those interested in Stalinism, Soviet ideology, mass culture, the popular press, education and the history of everyday life, as well as those engaged in burgeoning new academic fields associated with the theory and practice of national identity formation.
Finally, in the debate over Stalinist social mentalite, National Bolshevism spars with one of the most influential books of the past decade by Stephen Kotkin.[6] Complementing recent monographs by Fitzpatrick, Hoffmann and Davies,[7] National Bolshevism extends and qualifies aspects of their work by looking beyond the mid-1930s into the 1940s and 1950s.
