Topic: Bolsover (constituency)

House of Commons Hansard Debates for 24 Nov 1988
My constituents were denied access to the building for more than one hour although I had taken the trouble to go to the entrance and inform the police that they were expecting to see me.
Constituents' access to the House is a time-honoured principle ; I hope that you will look into the matter, Mr.
Members to bring in their constituents personally, because that tends to cause trouble with others in the queue at St. Stephen's entrance.

Society | Leadership defeated on private cash
As delegates yelled "Sit down" near the end of a long speech, Michael Cashman, the session's chairman and a MEP, had twice to appeal for Mr Boateng to be heard with respect.
The hostile reaction was followed by three card votes which saw a majority of union activists and a minority of constituency delegates unite to inflict embarrassing defeats on the platform.
A union call for a PFI review was backed by 67.19% to 32.81% despite opposition from Labour's national executive committee, a pro-PFI constituency resolution rejected by 58.44% to 41.56%, and an NEC statement supportive of PFI though offering "urgent talks" to avoid a two-tier workforce, was overturned by 53.62% to 45.38%.

I think the list of constituencies should show the location (when it isn't obvious) of a constituency, or at least the county and nation, and the incumbant MP with perhaps the majority also.
Then eg Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross would be ''Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross constituency'' and the risk of unintended duplicate articles would be rather less than at present.
I've jsut reverted the changes you made on this constituency's naming as - if you look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:UK_Parliamentary_constituencies you'll see it has pretty much been a ''de facto'' standard to use an ampersand and '(constituency)' in the articile naming.

'Beast of Bolsover' fights move to pension him off
THE veteran Left-winger Dennis Skinner is resisting pressure from new Labour to stand down from the Commons at the next general election despite being past the official retirement age.
Although he suffered a health scare three years ago and underwent surgery that cast doubt over whether he would stand in the last election, the so-called "Beast of Bolsover" has been cleared by his doctors.
He now regards himself as fighting fit once again, and admits only to a slight reservation about the future when listing his recreations as "cycling, tennis and athletics (watching)" in the parliamentary guidebooks.

Guardian Unlimited Politics | Special Reports | Tarmac tribute for Beast of Bolsover
He may be known as the Beast of Bolsover, but a gentler and perhaps more lasting memorial almost certainly awaits the leftwing MP Dennis Skinner.
Half a mile of concrete and tarmac on the M1 is likely to be named Skinner's Junction to honour the 72-year-old former miner's battle to get a junction into his constituency and help create an estimated 5,000 jobs.
The link in the stretch of the motorway through north Derbyshire, an area badly affected by the collapse of coal mining, was going to be given the prosaic name of Junction 29A until local people lobbied the Highways Agency and the transport department.

If you don't know the name of your constituency, you can find out by calling the House of Commons inquiry line on: 020 7219 4272, or you can visit www.locata.co.uk/commons.
We are asking everyone who comes to the mass lobby to make a flag out of coloured material and with their constituency name on it, to help MPs find people outside the House of Commons.
For example everyone from Scotland will be grouped in one part of the queue with Scottish constituencies beginning with the letter A at the front of that group and Scottish constituencies beginning with the letter B behind them, and so on.
