In fact I believe that Bolt Thrower was and still is a band with intelligent music and lyrics that breaks the mold of other death metal stereo types and puts them in a category of their own.
This is a good thing since bands today are constantly changing their sound to stay with the times, Bolt Thrower have found a sound that is timeless and is defining.

Bolt Thrower are typical of early 90's death metal, and unfortunately, the genre hasn't changed much in the last 10 years.
The difference with Bolt Thrower, however, is that they are not quite as extreme as some of the other death bands.
Bolt Thrower don't play every riff at breakneck speed and often slow down the tempo, making the lyrics easier to understand and the music a bit more accessible to the average metal and thrash fan.

I guess Bolt Thrower have just perfected their sound here, there's no real musical growth, but it's obvious that each of the members has achieved a level of confidence here which just pours into the performances.
Because Bolt Thrower are about as close to perfect as a band can get, and they're smart enough to realize that altering this sound will do nothing positive for them.

The band never truly distinguished themselves amongst the many thrash contenders of the period, however, and much like their funk metal niche, quickly faded away into obscurity.

 Ink 19 :: Bolt Thrower
For over a decade now, England's Bolt Thrower has maintained a Scorched Earth policy to its patented brand of "war metal," a death-metalized juggernaut (un)hinged by bulldozing double-bass beats, detuned doom riffs on uppers, and vocalist Karl Willets' scowling-general demon-growls.
However foaming-at-the-mouth the band may be, Bolt Thrower consistently remain the quintessence of non-academic tightness, lending itself more to a stately and studied battle-stance than prerequisite death metal chops, the band perpetually refining its war-like aesthetic with each subsequent record.
But to say Bolt Thrower's six studio albums are nearly interchangeable isn't so much an indictment of the band's lack of growth as it is a testament to the band's uncompromising single-mindedness -- an earmark of a band unfettered by extreme metal's trends and tribulations.
