Esp Mh300 - Musician Forums I think what he meant was that he prefers the neck thru rather than the bolt on. Also, the 201 is a bolt on neck vs. the neck-thru of the 301, which I also prefer. Just to clarify, the way the neck is attached to the body doesn't concern me. Set neck, bolt on, neck through...doesn't matter to me. I have a couple of basses alembic and Music man, now they sound completely different but I couldn't listen to them comparitively and say that the reason the alembic sounds and sustains better is because it has a through neck rather than a bolt on neck... If you had a bolt-on with a (grunt) maple body and maple neck it will probably sound a lot like a thru-body instrument with a maple neck section.
