  Bombala, New South Wales - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bombala is a town and local government area in the Monaro region of south-eastern New South Wales, Australia.
The town is the administrative centre of the Bombala Shire, which has a population of more than 3000, and covers an area of 3945 square kilometres.
The railway reached Bombala in 1921 and closed in 1986 being an extension of the line from Queanbeyan to Cooma.

By 1849 the small township of Bombala had its own post office and by 1850 a regular mail service was being run between the town and Eden on the coast.
It was around this time that a street plan was drawn up and Bombala quickly gained the reputation as one of the prettiest towns in the Monaro.
The best way to see the range of historic buildings in Bombala is to obtain a copy of the town's Self Guided Historical Walk which includes the local court house, the School of Arts, the National Australia Bank and the Literary Institute.

 ABC Business News - 31/05/02 : Successful Bombala Timber bidder expected soon
A spokesman for the Austral Softwood administrators says it is expected a preferred bidder for the Bombala Timber mill, on the New South Wales south coast, would be announced within weeks.
One of the bidders, the Bombala and District Development Association, says it is keen to continue operations with the existing mill then develop the proposed softwood mill, which was put on hold when Austral appointed an administrator.
The Association's acting secretary, Brian Chadwick, says there is a public meeting on Monday in Bombala to try to raise the investment capital needed to buy the mill.

 NPWS stages Bombala pest management workshop
Staff from the Interstate Pest Animal Working Group (IPAWG) recently staged a successful workshop to educate some 30 pest management planners and practitioners from NSW and Victoria on the control of feral pigs and other vertebrate pests.
The two-day workshop was held on a property adjacent to South East Forest National Park near Bombala.
Bombala Area Manager Franz Peters concluded the workshop, stating that the knowledge and experience gained will greatly assist in the control of feral pigs and other vertebrate pests, from the coast at Mallacoota through to Omeo in the Alps.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GENERATES $6 MILLION OF The payment of the first $1.4 million from the $3.6 million Eden Region Adjustment Package was today announced by the Federal Regional Services Minister, Senator Ian Macdonald and the Federal Forestry and Conservation Minister, Wilson Tuckey.
"This initial $1.4 million in Federal Government assistance is for projects in the Eden region, including the Shire of Bombala, that will create 50 new jobs in their first year of operation and 100 jobs in the longer term," Senator Macdonald said.
Both Ministers praised the efforts of the people of Eden and Bombala and their local leaders for taking a positive longer term outlook of the region’s future despite the setbacks of recent years, including distressing loss of jobs in the forestry and fisheries sectors and local manufacturing.
