  Indian Army Grenadiers Regiment
The Grenadiers have one of the longest and unbroken records of existence in the Indian Army.
In 1945 the regiment was redesignated The Indian Grenadiers and assigned to India as the country was partitioned by the departing British.
The 1st Grenadiers were transferred to the Brigade of Guards in 1950 and a parachute regiment was raised in 1952.

Grenadier companies of Bombay Sepoys won the battle of Talegaon in 1778, and by 1784 the Grenadier companies had been given the title of Bombay Grenadiers.
Thus 4th Bombay Grenadiers came to be known as The Indian Grenadiers in 1945 and was given to India.

Major Alastair Dunlop, who has died aged 85, was awarded the MC and Bar while serving with the Bombay Grenadiers in the Burma campaign.
On February 1 1945, A Company 3rd Battalion 4th Bombay Grenadiers, commanded by Dunlop, then a major, dug in across the Irrawaddy from Kyaukmyaung and held the bridgehead.
In 1939, he was posted to the 1st Battalion (101st) 4th Bombay Grenadiers, but transferred to the 3rd Battalion the following year and accompanied them to Burma in September 1943.

George Frederick Blackwood, the son of a Bengal Artillery officer and the grandson of William Blackwood, the eminent Edinburgh publisher, was born in Moradabad in 1838, and was educated at Edinburgh Academy, the Scottish Naval and Military Academy in Lothian Road, Edinburgh, and at Addiscombe.
The force marched, headed by a troop of the 3rd Bombay Cavalry thrown out as skirmishes in front of the same regiment, with a troop of the Scinde horse on its left and fifty sabres of the latter regiment on its right.
The infantry covered the advance to Slade's smooth-bore battery in the centre, with the Bombay Grenadiers in column on the extreme left, and between them and the guns, a half a company of Sappers and Miners.

The 1st Grenadiers and the cavalry suffered significant casualties while the 66th and Jacob’s Rifles were able to find cover from the bombardment.
The 66th and the Grenadiers, pursued by large numbers of Afghans, crossed the ravine into Khig, where around 100 officers and men made a stand in a garden on the edge of the village.
During the disorganized retreat the pursuing Afghan cavalry were held off by a squadron of the Scind Horse, the RHA battery and the infantry from the baggage guard, although many stragglers were caught and killed, particularly the wounded.

Eleven Grenadiers located somewhere in the western sector celebrated its 41st re-Raising Day.
It was raised as a territorial unit in 1922 and was named 11/4 Bombay Grenadiers (Mewar) Infantry.
Also present on the occasion were Brig (Retd) Mohinder Singh, the second Commanding Officer of the battalion and many retired officers who had hoisted the flag of the battalion at Jaipur on October 1, 1963.

Regarding the grenadiers- I wouldn't have a clue- no famous oils or even watercolours for that matter (mostly because they were raised post-independence).
When 8th Bombay NI was raised to Bombay Grenadiers the practise of selecting only certain size soldiers was adopted...

They fitted into our class composition and having kitted them out in our regimental uniform they were playing for us by the next weekend which was very good for morale – and the men themselves were delighted to remain enlisted.

Although the individuals concerned would have to be there during the actual qualifying period, to get the medal.

He sailed for India in 1831, entering the Bombay Army as a subaltern, becoming Adjutant to the Marine Battalion, Bombay.
He served in India until 1852, the greater part of the time in the Adjutant General's Department, rising through the ranks until he attained his majority, and became Deputy Adjutant General at Headquarters.
He retired in March, 1853 on a captain's pension, and in September the same year arrived in Adelaide with his wife and family.
