  Female Team Formed In Bomi County
Kortie, who is implementing one of his campaign plans in establishing female teams in all the 15 counties, on Saturday May 6, announced the establishment of a female team, called Bomi Rangers, in Bomi County.
According to him, the establishment of these teams in the 15 counties is part of his four years plan geared toward building strong national female team for the future.
The female boss, who is popularly known as 5-1-9, said that teams he is establishing in all the counties will not be his own teams but will rather be turned over to the county officials as their own so as to support them.

The port city of Buchanan, in Grand Bassa County came under siege last Friday when residents took to the streets in protest to an alleged stolen fuel from the premises of the Buchanan Renewable Energies (BRE) reportedly by some police officers, who were in charge of the consignment.
In her brief remarks to the audience, the Superintendent eloquently gave a brief state of progress been made in the county and a call to UNIBOA to be a participant in the reconstruction of the county.
She also answered many questions concerning issues in the county, such as the land issue between LAC and the people in its vicinity and the erosion that is eating away land and properties in the historic port city of Buchanan.

The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) has extended its humanitarian assistance to Bomi County as evident by the dedication of the Vincent Hall which was destroyed during the course of war.
According to him, the county’s superintendent is working harder along with other contingents of UNMIL who he said believed in the mission of peace, the mission of serving people, and a mission of making life better for all.

 Rainfall eases Tibet forest fire
BOMI, Tibet, August 19 -- Light rainfall that started on Friday night has mitigated a fire that has been devouring virgin forests in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region since Wednesday, although firefighters still need time to extinguish the fire.
It started to drizzle in Bomi county on Friday evening, just as the fire began to escalate in the eastern side of the virgin forest in Bomi County.
After a night of rain, Bomi county was smothered in fog on Saturday and smoke could be seen rising from the forest.

Lofa county is thought to have suffered the worst impact of the civil war and at least three quarters of its population has sought refuge in IDP camps or nearby countries.
The counties particulary affected are Lofa, Bong, Gran Gedeh, Cape Mount, Bomi, Monserado and Nimba.

During 1996, Bong and Nimba counties were firmly under the control of one faction, the NPFL, and not subject to the disturbances of conflict, enabling a high level of activity by farmers and also by NGOs in the distribution of rice seed and farming tools.
Security is relatively good in Bong county, since the NPFL control the whole county and there is no territorial fighting, although the looting of 245 tons of WFP aid food from the LWS store at Phebe hospital near the county capital of Gbarnga in October 1996 was a blow to the humanitarian effort.
The population is estimated at 10 000, with 1 500 in the county capital Zwedru.

In the part of the country (upper part of Lofa County) with the current fighting, whatever little infrastructure was left up to the end of the Liberian civil crisis (1997), has now been destroyed.
There is an estimated IDP population of 5,000 persons who have trekked through the forests and ended up in the lower part of Lofa County and in Bomi County, while there is a displaced population of 20,000 in Salayea District.

 MSF-USA: Field News 8/15/2003 - Picking Up The Pieces
Recently, MSF teams completed three assessment trips to rebel-held areas of Monvoria city and Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, and Bomi counties where there is virtually no access to health care for residents and displaced persons.
On Wednesday, August 14, two MSF teams traveled north of Monrovia to rebel-held camps for displaced in Montserrado County, and on to Bo Waterside on the Sierra Leone border in Grand Cape Mount County, and to Tubmanburg in Bomi County.
In response to ten cases of measles in MSF's two Mamba Point Hospitals, an MSF team has launched a vaccination campaign in the buildings, churches, and schools in Monrovia where tens of thousands of displaced persons are living in cramped, unhygienic conditions with little access to food or clean drinking water.
