  John O'Groat Journal and Caithness Courier: Bridging the gap at Bonar
This was constructed in 1812 at Bonar Bridge to the elegant and masterly design of the engineer Thomas Telford.
In 1974 the bridge was given one of the Structural Steel Awards and described as an "elegant major structure which, although visible from a distance, does not overwhelm its immediate environment".
Across the Carron delta from Bonar Bridge is the tiny village of Ardgay with its white stone of Kincardine, an ice-transported chunk of rock which marked the site where markets were held until the beginning of the 20th century.

MANY friends over a wide area learned with much regret of the recent death of Bonar Bridge native Robert Ross, after a long illness borne with much courage and patience.
The youngest in the family of four born to the late Mr and Mrs Donald Ross, Robert was the third generation to spend all of his life at the ancestral home at Migdale.
He was also a keen footballer and played for Bonar Bridge FC in the 1960s.

Bonar Bridge surprisingly beat Alness United 3-2 away this afternoon to book their place in the final against Thurso F.C possibly to be played next Saturday afternoon.
Thurso F.C have no game this weekend but the other two fixtures I am aware of today are cup ties between Bunillidh Thistle and Bonar Bridge, with the winners playing Thurso F.C at The Dammies on 22nd March.
Thurso FC is having a disco for all Primary School kids in the British Legion on Friday the 7th of March, Hot dogs, crisps, sweets on sale.

Bonar Bridge - A meeting of parishioners was publicly called, to be held in Gledfield School on Friday evening, to protest against the action of the School Board in refusing the use of schoolrooms for religious services by members of those who still adhere to the old Free Church.
Rev Norman Campbell, MA, Creich, was in the habit of preaching to large congregations, but at a recent meeting of the School Board it was unanimously agreed to prohibit the holding of religious services in the schoolrooms of Kincardine in future.
The Auld Kirk is quiet and serene; but between UF's, FC's and Secessionists, the bulk of the people are, to all appearance, ecclesiastically in a turmoil.

The road bridge across the river was built in 1846 and replaced a previous nine arch structure which, in turn, replaced a wooden structure.
Bonar Bridge was the main waystation for the route from Inverness to Caithness (A9) and the town suffered financially when the Kessock Bridge was opened thus diverting traffic away from the town.
A plaque on one of the castellated towers guarding the entrance to the bridge records that the metalwork was cast in Wales: another that the bridge was restored to something like its original condition, in 1964.

When the residents of Bonar Bridge were asked what colour they would like to see the bridge spanning the Kyle of Sutherland when it was repainted, they were shown computer mock-ups of the bridge in various shades displayed in the local library.
It's not known whether the version showing the colours of the rainbow was included as a serious option or as a joke or was a computer graphics designer showing off, but that is what the overwhelming majority of the residents have chosen.
Currently the bridge is a drab grey and is due to be repainted in 2006 or 2007.
