  1972 Bond Bug
Although the Bond plant in Preston was eventually shut down, another Bond car was produced under Reliant management – the Bond Bug of 1970, a completely fresh new wedge-shaped car with a fibreglass body.
The Bug was produced for the 17 to 25 year-old age market and it was just offered initially in just one colour – a bright tangerine orange.
When the Bug was discontinued in 1975, it was the end of Bond as a name.

Following the take over of Bond in August 1970 Reliant stopped all Bond models but prior to this, they had commissioned Ogle (their design consultants) to produce a sports 3-wheeler for the "young" generation.
Two new models came out which were the Bond Bug 750E and 750ES which apart from the larger engine were almost identical to their 700cc predecessors.
The Bond Bug however was not as successful as Reliant had hoped and so after some 2,268 vehicles were built manufacture stopped in May 1974, which also brought an end to the Bond name.

The Bug 700 was planned to be the base model and it was intended that it should be sold without any sort of refinements or luxuries.
The hinged canopy had to be held open with a simple prop arrangement and sidescreens were not part of the specification (but supposedly could have been ordered as an "extra.").
The Bug 700E was a deluxe version of the 700 with sidescreens, a heater, a telescopic canopy damper, canopy lock, polished hub caps, chrome glazing rubber trim, drivers sun visor and even an interior light!

Because the Bug is a three-wheeler, and weighs less than 8 cwt., it comes under a completely different set of regulations from conventional cars.

The Bug 700E was a deluxe version of the 700 with sidescreens, heater, a telescopic canopy damper, canopy lock, drivers sun visor and an interior light!
The Bug 700ES was the same as the 700E but with a higher compression engine, alloy wheels, low profile tyres, spare wheel, rubber front bumper, wing mirrors, mud flaps and several extras such as head rests, extra side seat supports, twin horns, formula 1 style steering wheel, etc.
NOTE: A prototype 4 wheeler bug using Reliant Rebel front suspension and steering is known to have been built for evaluation at Tamworth in 1970.

The Bond Equipe was introduced in 1963 and was a further break from tradition, being a four wheeler sports car, built in co-operation with Standard-Triumph.

Though the thinking behind the Reliant takeover of Bond cars Ltd. in 1969 was certainly a lot more complex than simply knocking out the opposition, they did use the opportunity to put into production a radical new three-wheeler fun-car concept which they had been working on for some time.
Reliant finally bid farewell to the Bug in 1974 when the last of the 2,500 or so built left the factory in May of that year.
The moulds were, however, apparently retained however and were later sold off, leading to a re-launch of the Bond Bug as a modern-day kit-car in either its original three-wheeler or a new four-wheeler specification.

Lawrie Bond designed a small three wheeled car and took his design to Sharps Commercials who agreed to manufacture it and the first Bond Minicar was born in 1947.
The Bond name was then used on an unusual sporting version of the Reliant three wheeler which was called the Bond Bug.
The Bond Minibike was built around a number of pressings (unlike most motorbikes of the era which used a tubular steel frame) The wheels and Villiers engine both were similar to those used for Bond Minicars.

Didn't the Bond Bug have the same alloy engine as the Hillman Imp, and a ridiculous top speed for a three wheeler.
The bug had the all aluminium 700cc engine from reliant, later enlarged to 750cc.

Bond is not broken, you may need to fine tune the engine but it doesn't need to be overhauled.
And if they were going to adapt Amis or Garnder's Books they would have to alter them a bit, as a lot of stuff from them has been used in the EON films.
Of the two, Gardner definitely writes more of a literary Bond, and Benson a cinematic one, but both of their books would make good movies.
