Dwayne "Bones" Hillman (aka Wayne Stevens) was born in Auckland, in 1958 (or roundabouts).
Bones spent much of his time hanging around Neil Finn's place until Neil recommended him as a bass player to Rob Hirst, as Midnight Oil had been looking for a replacement after Peter Gifford left the band in 1987.
Bones has a side project called The Hunting Party which is described as a more moody lounge-type music.

Bones Hillman (1958-) is a New Zealand musician.
His first band was The Masochists, one of the early NZ punk acts, with his friends from the Auckland suburb of Avondale (they were alternatively known as The Avondale Spiders), playing bass guitar.
The name Hillman was coined by the Suburban Reptiles manager for a press release and taken from the type of car he drove.

Bones was supposedly hanging round Neil's pool quite a bit, when Neil decided to return the favour to Rob and suggest Bones as the Oil's new bassist.
His style of playing is considered as Beatle-ish, and he contributes towards the backing vocals also.

Bones Hillman's CV wouldn't get him a nice job in a bank, but that was never the point.
In '87, at the suggestion of Neil Finn in whose house he was living, Hillman was taken into a cornerstone Australian rock band, Midnight Oil.
With Peter Garrett's decision to officially leave the band last year - he is now pursuing a parliamentary seat for Labor - Hillman moved back here eight months ago, has recorded with the Finn brothers in the States for their forthcoming album, and is currently recording with Dave Dobbyn.

The Oils, as they are known to their fans, began as a progressive rock band called Farm in the early 1970s, then under the Midnight Oil name developed into an aggressive, punk - hard rock group associated with the surfer community near Sydney.
