A listen to Bonfire's own recording of "Born to Be Wild" on this solo outing can remind one just how powerful the song really is. Bonfire's take is druggier than the balls-out Steppenwolf hit, a slippery psychedelic tone without the dramatic dynamics and steamroller rhythm.
Bonfire didn't possess the macho bombast of his ex-bandmates; his self-titled debut is a lost masterpiece of introspective psych-pop full of great tunes.
Bonfire's talent as a songwriter was obvious to Steppenwolf, as they would go on to raid this album for a full four songs over the course of their career ("Tenderness," "Ride With Me, Baby," and "The Night Time's for You" all appeared on For Ladies Only).

Get Ready to ROCK! Review of CD album by rock band Bonfire called Double X
The title of German melodic rockers' Bonfire's latest album is a reminder of their longevity, though singer Claus Lessman and guitarist Hans Ziller are the only mainstays of the band from their first album 20 years ago.
Bonfire's material has always reminded me of a slightly smoother Scorpions or Dokken and this CD has its rocking moments, even if they occasionally lapse into cliché (But We Still Rock).
In short, an album that is likely to divide their fans, but one I would still recommend to fans of Gotthard and quality European commercial rock.

Bonfire's late-sixties material occasionally bears some resemblance to Steppenwolf, particularly in the use of heavy organs.
Yet on about half the album Bonfire favors a pretty airy pop-psychedelic approach (reminiscent of his "Tomorrow's Ship" composition on the single for pre-Steppenwolf outfit the Sparrow, written under his real name of Dennis Edmonton) to both his songwriting and arrangements.
When Bonfire tries to rock harder and get a little bluesy, the music becomes undistinguished, and sometimes downright boring.

Anyway, this RIOT album was a sort of mixture of classic 80s hardrock/metal with some modern (for 1990) rhythms, such as the trumpets in opener “On your knees” and “Killer”.
The 3rd album of CACUMEN was titled ‘Down to hell’, and this was definitely the album that was actually the beginning of BONFIRE, also due to the fact 3 of the 7 original songs were later re-recorded as BONFIRE.
