		Kanda Bongo Man (his grandfather played drums, thus the family nickname) has been at the heart of the Parisian soukous scene since he moved there in 1979 from Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo).
		Bongo Man is credited with being one of the pioneers of "modern" soukous, in which the original slow, vocal-oriented rumba section was dispensed with, leaving only the fast and bright "seben" (the part that flings people out onto the dancefloor).
		Bongo Man has also been accused of being largely responsible for the commercialization of the music at the expense of its subtleties.
