Mutant Reviewers from Hell do "Bongwater"
I wonder if Bongwater is virtually unwatchable for me because, whereas the first time I watched it I was spellbound at how easy it was to say “that’s *****” or “that’s ***” or “oh my god that’s *******!”, subsequent viewings have proven that recognition factor to be quite painful on the existential plane.
Bongwater is pretty weird: I’m glad it exists, I suppose, though its existence is more painful than anything else.
If you happened to see Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and thought “Hey, that’s my girl!”, Bongwater offers a long hard look at the dark side of the drama queen, and the gamut of effects that her presence can inflict upon your life.

 small thoughts - group-of-friend films
Being excited by a movie like "Black Hawk Down" is fine, but it's cool to watch a movie and think, "Wow, I want my friendships to be like that!" and then get to think about your friends and be kind of inspired to reach out to them some.
If you were to see this movie, I think you'd just get a better idea of the subtlety of the suppression of women, at least in the society in which this way filmed (and I'm assuming the movie is more-or-less accurate).
Kind of frustrating, and strange because it's not like all the men are evil, they just seem to mostly follow the zeitgeist (just like we Americans do) without exactly seeing the consequences or their power to change things (just like we Americans don't?).

What these movies share is a generally low measure of ambition: you can tell they were destined for shelving at a rental shop, because the ingredients just don't add up: the editing's a little clumsy, the climax too muted, bizarre, and it all feels kinda cheap (even the fun ones, like this baby).
