Numerous and important works were compiled or written by these hard-working missionaries.
This labour was undertaken by order of the Emperor K'ang-hi and executed between 1708 and 1718, under the direction of Father Jartoux, by Bouvet, Cardoso, Bonjour (Augustinian), Mailla, Hinderer, de Tartre, and especially Fridelli and Régis.
They were the basis of d'Anville's celebrated maps issued between 1729 and 1734.
