		Bonneville met with Kelley, who was impressed by him an appointed him to lead one of the expeditions to the Oregon Country that were to leave in early 1832.
		Bonneville reported that many of the Native Americans he encountered in the Snake River were also reluctant to displease the Hudson's Bay Company by trading with the Americans.
		In early 1836 he was successful, and in subsequent years was given assignments on the western frontier at Fort Kearny in the Nebraska Territory and in the New Mexico Territory at Fort Fillmore where he became the commander of the 3rd Infantry Regiment on February 3, 1855 after the death of Colonel Thomas Staniford.

	Bonneville Slide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Bonneville Slide was a large landslide that took place in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, blocking the Columbia River.
		Approximately three hundred years ago a mountain underwent a large landslide, splitting in two and forming Table Mountain and Greenleaf Peak.
		The slide occurred sometime in the eighteenth century and may be tied to the Cascadia Earthquake, though evidence does not seem solid as yet.

	A New Look at an Old Landslide
		It is the youngest and largest of four adjacent slides that make up the 14-square-mile Cascade Landslide Complex north of the Columbia near Cascade Locks and Stevenson, Wash. The area on the Columbia's north side is prone to landslides because of steep terrain made up of formations that tip toward the river.
		While the Columbia was dammed by the slide, area inhabitants might have been able to cross the river on foot, which probably gave rise to Native American stories about a bridge near Cascade Locks.
		Research on the landslide intensified in the 1930s when the Bonneville Dam was being built and in the 1970s with the construction of the second Bonneville powerhouse, which was completed in 1978.
