		The ‘baby bonus’ (or First Child Tax Refund) was announced by the Prime Minister at the launch of the coalition election campaign for the 2001 election.
		While the baby bonus will, depending on the level at which it is paid, make a contribution towards the payment of this extra cost it remains unclear as to what effect it will have on a decision to return to work.
		The restriction of the amount of the offset to the proportion of the year after the child event occurred seems at odds with the suggestion that the offset is designed to compensate for the initial costs of the birth of the first child.

		The Bonus Army massed at the United States Capitol on June 17 as the U.S. Senate considered the Patman Bonus Bill, which would give World War I veterans certain benefits.
		The bill had passed the House of Representatives on June 15, but was blocked in the Senate.
		The army burned down the Bonus Army's tents and shacks, although some reports claim that to spite the government, which had provided much of the shelter in the camp, some veterans torched their own camp dwellings before the troops could set upon the camp.
