 SuperSnakes--Important Snake-Keeping Tips, page 2
Rodents quickly realize when a snake isn't in a feeding mood or condition (like if a snake is sick, too cold, stressed, shedding), and they will take advantage of that.
Since you don't feed a snake every day, it's easy to lose track of when the last meal was or when you last washed the water bowl, especially if you own more than one snake.
The snake is just trying to hang on so it feels safe, and it doesn't mean any harm to you, but they are just so strong for their size that you should be aware of the possible consequences.

 Book Review: Snake Hips
Snake Hips tells the tale of how a woman who was dumped by the man in her life turned to belly dancing to help distract her from her broken heart.
At the beginning of the book, she describes how she came to be involved with the man, and what led up to the decade-early midlife crisis that resulted in their split.
Reading this book made me feel as though I were sipping a cup of tea with Soffee while she gave me a spirited update on her latest misadventure.

No particular level of education is assumed for the book's target audience, though readers are presumed to have a "heightened curiosity about snakes." The authors avoid the use of unnecessary scientific jargon, but do not shy away from introducing (and defining) important technical terms or the use of scientific names.
This is by no measure a "captive care" book, however, and snake keepers are encouraged to consult one of the many available care manuals, some of which are mentioned in the bibliography.
Snake reproduction is summarized in appendix four, with average female size, mode of reproduction (oviparity versus viviparity), and numbers and masses of neonates noted for representative species from each family.

JIME: Book Review: "Silicon Snake Oil" (Stoll)
Stoll's basic mode of argument throughout the book is to compare two functionally-related technologies–one computational (e.g., email) and one less so (e.g., the U.S. postal service), and to point out several positive aspects of the latter that are missing in the former.
A corollary of the book's haphazard structure and style is that almost all of it is polemic, unburdened by any research beyond brief introspection.
And Stoll's description of the impact of computer databases on the practice of scientific research–he is an astronomer by profession–is especially useful; when he writes about the limitations of computer models, he's clearly drawing on a long professional history of reflection on the subject.

 Smithsonian Answer Book(1)
This kind of book, which takes into consideration the recent literature, thus becomes a valuable tool for the generalized herpetologist who needs a quick answer to a question that cannot be readily recalled.
However, this book was not written for herpetologists; instead it was written for those who are interested in snakes but would not read journal articles or technical volumes.
There are a growing number of books like this one, and they are important because they provide reference points for future reading and investigation, and stimulate interest in animals that would otherwise be considered pests or vermin.

Snakes have long been an integral part of folklore and myth, and as Gregory states in the introduction of this book, "Snakes are our primordial contemporaries, creatures with which we as a species have long and intimate familiarity." How much truer this statement could be, I don't know.
Snakes have a very bad reputation, which is in part due to them being so different from us -- the unknown is always feared -- and partially due to the fact that the Christians have given them such a bad reputation.
This book is rich in the lore of the snake, and provides us with different angles from around the world to view him from.

Instead I wish to focus on the book and what it has revealed to me about its author, and also whether or not it is an important contribution to the Koori political history of an era that until now has not be written about in any great detail.
In the first book, Snake Cradle, there is much more passion and feeling in the writing, no doubt because of the intensely personal, traumatic nature of the material.
That is why books by the people who were involved in the period known to Koori political activists as 'The Decade of Uprising', from 1964 — 74, are an antidote for the neglect of white historians.

There’s another Lebanese belly dancer out there, who wants to share a book about her experiences with me? I was completely taken aback, and waited with bated breath for the book to arrive.
The book starts with Anne's recounting her meeting Chris (her recovering alcoholic boyfriend) at an AA meeting, their living together, their friends from the tattoo parlor, and his walking out on her.
What kept me completely enthralled by the book is Anne’s relationships with her families, her community and her fellow Lebanese from the local Maronite Church.

The Simon and Schuster book describes various animals using alliteration, such as: “a porcupine is piles of prickles.” Tracy van Straaten, director of publicity for Simon and Schuster Children’s Books said that all editions of Barrett’s book are currently unavailable.
In 11 of the 12 instances in which an animal is mentioned in both books, the language is duplicated word for word, for instance: “A crab is conspicuously claws,” “a duck is quantities of quack” and “a porcupine is piles of prickles.”
