And so all is forgiven to this self-confessed ''cheating bastard" who, to mimic the teenager hero of his debut novel Vernon God Little, can't believe 'his f*** luck,' that he is finally here for having written a darkly funny satire of the American dream gone sour and blood-curdling in teenagers' vertiginous brains.
And let Booker Bookies, too, be forgiven for trying a tad too hard to sell 'Oriental chic.' And the jury be blessed for not letting didactic monsters get in the way.
Dear disabused readers, in the end what does it matter to us who is winning Booker or Pulitzer, or whether the story-telling voice is that of Ganguli's or Gogol's as long as the beloved book you lie with entangles you, even though kisses are sometimes fake and eyelashes false.

Once one embraces a Cult of Moral 'Rectitude,' premised upon the idea of a right to change other men's cultures, or alter their stations--with or without their consent--there is very little real respect that remains for personal freedom.
Thus the parlor theories of the "Enlightened" drawing rooms of 18th Century Paris, rapidly devolved into a "Reign of Terror." And yet, that epoch was little more than a comic interlude compared to the social disaster for the West that has been developing over the past two generations.
It is no exaggeration to suggest that the combination of Egalitarianism with the "true believer's" need to assume a mantle of moral 'rectitude,' sets in motion a process which rapidly 'morphs' from passion to fanaticism, finally to mania, as programs conceived in fantasy inevitably come to failure.
