Because of the excellent professional training she received at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, she was chosen for a technical theater apprenticeship in a professional theater in Houston.
Her friends from Lanier and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts came from various geographic areas of Dallas and were of various ethnicities.
As part of the review process, public forums were held at 15 Dallas area high schools in which approximately 200 parents, teachers, administrators, and community members participated by writing personal comments regarding 12 specific topics of review; and in some cases, discussed these topics with review team members.

 On Campus 10/26/99-Faulkner visits encourage applications for scholarships
The president visited A. Maceo Smith High School, North Dallas High School and Wilmer-Hutchins High School in the Dallas area on Oct. 13, and on Oct. 25 he traveled to Houston to talk with seniors and juniors at Jack Yates High School, Booker T. Washington High School and Sterling High School.
In mid-November he and a team of other UT Austin representatives will travel to San Antonio and work in two teams visiting students at Lanier High School, McCollom High School, Fox Tech High School, Harlendale High School, South San Antonio High School and Sam Houston High School.
We want high school students to consider UT Austin and to know that when they enroll, we will be there to help them undertake the educational adventure of a lifetime," said Faulkner.

He has developed the basis for successful bands at Jack Yates High School and later at Booker T. Washington High School where he organized his first stage band.
This non-profit organization was created in 1999, with the goal of providing educational and scholarship opportunities to Houston area high school students of music and to encourage students to use the discipline they receive in music to further their lifelong goals.
