Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Comics (or, less commonly, sequential art) is a form of visual art consisting of images which are commonly combined with text, often in the form of speech balloons or image captions.
The most common forms of printed comics are comic strips (most commonly four panels long) in newspapers and magazines, and longer comic stories in comic books, graphic novels and comic albums.
In the United States the term "comics" is sometimes used to describe the page of a newspaper upon which comic strips are found, and through this usage has also grown to be used as a definition for comic strips.

British Comics Collection: The British Library Newspaper Library
Comics which were designed primarily for children were not published until the early years of the twentieth century, the first being the Rainbow (1914-1956), although Puck (1904-1940), which began as an adult comic, gradually came to be aimed at a much younger readership.
The 1930s were undoubtedly the golden age of the comic, with a large number of titles in publication ranging from Tiny Tots (1927-1959), aimed at the 'nursery market', to Crackers (1929-1941) for older children.
The boom culminated in the launch of the Dandy in 1937 and the Beano in 1938, both published by D. Thomson of Dundee, which introduced a new style of comic drawing.

His first two full-length comic books, Arrabbiata Comics and Monster City Comics were created in collaboration with printmaker Paul Bonelli under the name “Fistball Productions.” While the pair received some positive editorial feedback for that work, publication eluded them, and when Bonelli entered graduate school, they amiably parted artistic ways.
These four Boom Booms then led to yet another set of four completely different, and yet larger (at standard comic-book size) Boom Boom comics, when MU Press publisher Edd Vick became David’s first publisher in 1994, printing David’s work under his newly inaugurated AEON Press imprint.
In that twenty-page comic, Lasky created short-form biographies of painter Pablo Picasso and blues musician John Lee Hooker, using a conceptual pun to loosely play on emotional parallels between Picasso’s “blue period” and Hooker’s profound blues music.
