Boomtown - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A boomtown is a community that experiences sudden and rapid population and economic growth.
Boomtowns are typically characterized by "overnight expansions" in both population and money as people stream into the community for high-paying jobs, mining prospects, attractive amenities or climate, or other opportunities.
Often, boomtowns are the site of both economic prosperity and negative social disruption as the local culture and infrastructure struggles to acccomodate the waves of new residents.

 Boomtown
“Boomtown” was a show about stories, L.A. stories, primarily personal stories about loss, both present and past; it was about healing and redemption amidst a handful of brutal, interrelated professions in a concrete jungle where each story is scrutinized tenfold by an intense media machine.
“Boomtown”, which ran for 16 weeks on Sundays at 10 on NBC, before fatally moving to Friday, created a lot of buzz when it was initially screened for critics at an annual TV journalism convention.
In the pilot, for example, a young girl is murdered during a botched drive-by shooting, and one of the boys inadvertently involved, an innocent fl teenager from a good family, accidentally dies during the investigation.

Boomtown never jumped, but NBC jumped the shark by putting this show on hiatus after convincing the production company to change the show's format, which put it perilously close to jumping the shark in the first two episodes of the second season.
Boomtown had such a great premise, but of course, the powers that be had to piss it away.
The first season of 'Boomtown' was so phenomenal, and its treatment by NBC so shoddy, it deserves a 'Never Jumped.' On the other hand, I can't ignore the indignity of the network's attempt to 'retool' the show by ditching the original concept and shoving in Vanessa Williams.

Boomtown was a radical and inventive approach to the ensemble cop show that added up to so much more than just its central gimmick of telling different stories from different perspectives.
It was also the story of its seven central characters: Deputy DA David (Neil McDonough), for example, failing to cope with his growing alcoholism and sense of disillusion, and detective Joel Stevens (Donnie Wahlberg) endlessly reliving the cot-death of his daughter and his wife's attempted suicide.

So in addition to seeing the story through the eyes of the victims and criminals, you have it told to you by the detectives (Donnie Wahlberg and Mykelti Williamson), the beat cops (Gary Basaraba and Jason Gedrick), a district attorney (Neal McDonough), a reporter (Nina Garbiras) and a paramedic (Lana Parrilla).
Boomtown starts with a seemingly open-and-shut crime, and then slowly the fallacies in your assumptions are revealed.
