Boone County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri.
It is part of the Columbia, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area which encompasses all of Boone County and the city of Columbia.
In the county the population was spread out with 22.80% under the age of 18, 19.90% from 18 to 24, 29.90% from 25 to 44, 18.80% from 45 to 64, and 8.60% who were 65 years of age or older.

Boone County was formed on 16 November 1820 as a territorial county emerging from the vastly larger territorial county of Howard and for a time being known as part of "Boone's Lick Country".
This county was named in honor of the famous Kentucky explorer, Daniel Boone, who spent his latter years in eastern Missouri.
Note that the early records of the area use both spellings: Boone and Boon.

Although the county commissioners reported the removal of the seat of justice to Columbia in the spring of 1821, the actual transfer could not be made without the ratification of the Legislature, which did not assemble until the fall of that year.
A few issues of two Missouri papers were printed on paper manufactured at this mill, but the enterprise was not remunerative and the paper mill had but a temporary existence.
It was for a short time the county seat of Boone County, and the first terms of the county and circuit courts were held there.

 Columbia Missourian - Commissioner gets free ride to Hawaii conference
While the Boone County Commission has budgeted more than $7,000 to send county employees to a conference in Hawaii next month, they won’t spend a dime of it.
Miller said county employees will attend different conferences this year that address specific issues of concern to the county, such as transitioning to electronic voting.
In each of the past five years, the county has spent an average of $5,500 to send three or more county employees to NACo conferences in places such as Phoenix and St. Louis.

 Henry M. Thomas of Callaway County Missouri
HENRY M. THOMAS, another of the many and industrious farmers of Cedar township, was born in Monroe county, Missouri, in 1840, and was a son of William Thomas, a native of North Carolina, and Amanda (Wood) Thomas, who came originally from Kentucky.
They were married in the Blue Grass State, and came to Missouri in 1838, first locating in Monroe county, but four years afterwards they removed to Callaway county, where they still reside.
In 1865 he was married to Miss Nancy J. Madden, a native of Boone county, Missouri, and daughter of William and Jennie (Yount) Madden, originally of Tennessee.
