Turbocharger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The two smaller turbos produce the same (or more) aggregate amount of boost as a larger single turbo, but since they are smaller they reach their optimal rpm, and thus optimal boost delivery, faster.
The boost threshold of a turbo system describes the minimum turbo rpm at which the turbo is physically able to supply the requested boost level.
Small car turbos are increasingly being used as the basis for small jet engines used for flying model aircraft—though the conversion is a highly specialised job—one not without its dangers.

Cerebus:An Aardvark on the Edge (A Brief History of Dave Sim and His Independent Comic Book) Americana: The Journal Of American Popular Culture 1900-Present
These authors may not have been doing something that major comic book companies like Marvel or DC were interested in, but they made comics anyway out of their love for the medium.
Fellow comic creator Rick Veitch comments that he has seen Sim get "vicious and cruel on a heartbeat (especially toward women)" and that saying that "Tangents" is a publicity stunt to boost sales is a fair, but highly unlikely, claim (Veitch).
The comics, collected in Book 2 as High Society, told one continuing story and were first published in comic form at around the same time as his announcement.

 LA Weekly
With the general rebelliousness of the 1960s (and no small boost from Pop), the Emergents began challenging this prejudice, and an entire new wave of borderline commercial comics by unrepentant Comic Book Artists emerged.
For all their philosophical depth, heroic honesty, progressive politics, exquisite draftsmanship and satirical brilliance, R. Crumb’s comics are rooted in a refusal of the modern, specifically of the formal innovations of the postwar comics era.
In any case, there’s a prevailing sense that the comics’ claim to innovative artistry ends somewhere around WWII.

However, when she stumbles across a beaker labeled Elixir of Wisdom the woman decides to take a swig & boost her intelligence, but when the potion proves toxic to humans, she dies a painful death, and the healers of Asgard are unable to save her.
I mean the book could have focused on free will, or that Thor was robbing humanity of its ability to rise to the occasion, but instead we are treated to several scenes that are so utterly simplistic in the presentation of the idea they want to express that they felt downright manipulative.
The final person is an investigative reporter who goes undercover in Asgard, as during a tour of the city she slips away with a hidden camera & goes looking for dirty secrets.

The ADD Blog at Comic Book Galaxy - Pushing Comix Forward
For your initial batch of comics to be so unmemorable (the very best of them were mediocre, the worst downright fucking awful) demonstrates a nascent publisher more interested in creating the illusion of a "line" of comics than actually building a quality stable of books that people will want to follow and tell others about.

Hawkeye wasn't a major player in the first Contest of Champions--he wasn't an Avenger at that point, and wasn't one of the five who had just been cut (Beast, Wonder Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Jocasta), so there was no "hey, this character's hot, let's use him to boost sales" motivation.

COMICON.com: HOW STAN "The Man" GOT MARVEL TO PAY UP
The end result was perhaps the most beneficial contract in comics industry history, and the one by which Lee abides today: a contract that includes a lifetime term, a significant boost in salaried rewards, protection for Lee's family, non-exclusivity, rights to various Stan Lee-related likenesses and associated phrases, and that surprising, remarkably beneficial clause.
In addition, subsequent rulings coming down harder on presumptive work for hire arrangements regarding freelance work in mainstream comics had yet to be handed down.
A strange, seven-year journey from negotiating table to mediating table has ended happily for Lee, rewarded in a way he deserved for a contract he alone among his peers was in a position to negotiate, both in terms of his career and the moment at which his contract came up that one last time.

Comics almost were dead, and they needed a boost.
By the end of 1955, the comics industry as a whole was in a downward spiral that seemed as if it had just about finished the comics for good.
These heroes reigned supreme over the industry for ten years before the end of the second world war reduced the number of villains left for them to fight and crime comics then became very popular, followed by injections of teenage humor, jungle themes, mystery, science fiction and horror.

Redd and Gray’s participation in the pageant was a boon to the Miss America Organization, which in recent years has struggled to emphasize the competition’s role as a leading scholarship provider for young women, while still trying to boost the telecast’s flagging ratings.
Competing as Miss Virginia and Miss Rhode Island, respectively, Redd and Gray were seeking to follow in the footsteps of outgoing Miss America Erika Harold, who plans to enroll in Harvard Law School (HLS) in fall 2004.
While this is the first year that two Harvard students have competed against each other, Redd and Gray follow in a Crimson tradition of state-level victory in the last decade that includes three Miss Massachusetts contestants and a Miss North Dakota.
