Boots Randolph (born Homer Louis Randolph III on June 3, 1927 in Paducah, Kentucky) is an American saxophonist and renowned session musician.
Randolph is the saxophone player responsible for the 1962 hit song, Yakety Sax, which is perhaps better remembered as the closing theme to the Benny Hill television specials.
Other notable recordings Boots Randolph has played on include "Little Queenie" by REO Speedwagon, "Java" by Al Hirt, "Turn On Your Lovelight" by Jerry Lee Lewis, and "Rockin' 'Round The Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee.

Randolph began playing the trombone in school and learned several other instruments, but by the time he was 16 he had begun to focus seriously on the sax.
But Randolph was a consistent seller of LP albums (with 13 charted releases) in the 1960s and 1970s; offering pleasant saxophone covers of material from various genres of music, he became a counterpart to Atkins on guitar and Floyd Cramer on piano.
Randolph remained active as an entertainer into the 2000s, and in 1994 the original Yakety Sax album was admitted into the unofficial country canon; it was reissued by Germany's Bear Family label.

Boots played an array of instruments, but by the age of 16, he decided to focus his attention on the saxophone.
Boots Randolph played sax on Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Woman”, Al Hirt’s “Java”, REO Speedwagon’s “Little Queenie” and Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ ‘Round The Christmas Tree.” Boots had a major impact on the use of the sax in pop and country albums making his own style a major part of the overall Nashville Sound.

If Chet Atkins was the commanding general of the "Nashville Sound" emanating from RCA Victor in the 60’s then Boots Randolph and Floyd Cramer were his two principal lieutenants.
Boots released his first single under the name of Randy Randolph, but he failed to register any personal singles success while at RCA, and he left the label in 1961.
Boots’ finest can either be heard on Yakety Sax, which set a style, his session work, or his recordings with Chet Atkins and Floyd Cramer.

It was a bigger pop than country hit, climbing to #2; the only record keeping it from #1 was Elvis Presley’s “Are You Lonesome Tonight,” another record Cramer had played on.
By the mid-1960s, Cramer was established as an album act, recording prolifically for RCA and touring widely with RCA labelmates Chet Atkins and saxophonist Boots Randolph.
Cramer stayed active in the studio for years thereafter, and he continued to do occasional concerts and record television-marketed albums until sidelined by cancer, which eventually took his life.
