Border Television is to apply for new regional commercial radio licences in the East Midlands and Yorkshire under the Century brand name.
Border Television is looking to expand its Century radio format to other parts of the country, and expects to apply for licences in Central Scotland, Yorkshire and the West Midlands.
Border Television is to put in an early application for the renewal of its broadcasting licence next week, due to fears that the company may be forced to split into two to ensure proper coverage of the new Scottish parliament.

The anti-Thai demonstration, seen on Burmese television at border areas yesterday, was against alleged Thai intervention in Burmese internal affairs by supporting rebellious minorities, notably the Karen National Union and the Shan State Army.
"We must bravely crush those who are harming the sovereignty along the border area and wipe out all destructive activities of insurgents," she urged the crowd, which included villagers, representatives of social groups, the Burmese Red Cross and the fire brigade.
Meanwhile, on the border in Chiang Mai province, Thai officials said a police patrol had exchanged fire with a group of 20 men believed to be from the United Wa State Army.

British troops moved into the Faw Peninsula of southern Iraq, which runs from the Iraqi city of Basra to the Persian Gulf and is home to a significant portion of Iraq's oil industry.
Iraqi television said early Friday that targets hit by coalition forces included a military site in Basra and another target in Akashat, a town about 300 miles west of Baghdad near the Syrian border.
