Precedents of Bruce Draconarius of Mistholme: Bordure
Beyond that, annulets and bordures are quite different charges: the annulet is always round, where the bordure follows the outline of the display surface.
When a bordure and chief are used together, the chief almost invariably overlies the bordure (Parker 73).
The equal width of the outer three stripes, and the fact that the central stripe is of the field, gave this the appearance of a bordure voided, not of an orle within a bordure.

Bordure - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In heraldry, a bordure is a contrasting border around a shield, traditionally one-sixth as wide as the shield itself.
When two coats of arms are combined by dimidiation or impalement, it is supposed to be a rule that the bordure does not run along the partition line.
Like any heraldic ordinary, a bordure may be of a single tincture or divided; its edge may be straight or otherwise; and it may be charged with smaller figures.

Marks of Difference in the French Royal Family
The use of the label, bordure, bend gules begins in the second half of the 13th century.
Thus the label argent became associated with Orléans and the bordure gules with Anjou, and both Gaston and Philippe switched from the bordure to the label when the courtesy title of Anjou was replaced by the apanage of Orléans (1626, 1660).
In the end, heraldic good sense prevailed, and these quartered arms were replaced by 1771 at the latest with differenced arms: a bordure indented for Provence, and in 1773 by a bordure embattled for Artois (but note that Louis XVI's second son quartered France and Normandie until he became Dauphin in 1789).

We have many period examples of bordures compony, which are almost the same in appearance as bordures gyronny.
Because the bordure counterchanged has large enough pieces to maintain its identifiability, and it looks like a common multiply divided period bordure, it may be accepted without explicit documentation of a bordure counterchanged on a gyronny field.
