Borescope - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rigid or flexible borescopes may be fitted with a magnifying device and a way to illuminate the work being inspected, usually illumination fibers contained in the insertion tube of the borescope.
The eyepiece may be fitted with a coupler lens to allow the borescope to be used with imaging devices such as a video or CCD camera.
A flexible borescope can be used to access cavities which are around a bend, such as a combustion chamber or "Burner Cans" in order to view the condition of the compressed air inlets, turbine blades and seals without disassembling the engine.

Rigid borescopes are similar to a (A flexible medical instrument involving fiber optics that is used to examine internal organs) fiberscope, but have a higher quality image and are not flexible.
Rigid or flexible borescopes may be fitted with a (additional info and facts about magnifying) magnifying device and a way to illuminate the work being inspected, usually illumination fibers contained in the insertion tube of the borescope.
Rigid borescopes provide a superior image to a flexible borescope, but have the limitation that access to what is to be viewed is a staight line.

The field-of-view of the Hawkeye borescopes is approximately 35°.
Borescopes, however, have a very large depth of field — often from infinity down to an inch or less — that makes them easy to use without constant refocusing.
Today, most borescopes use fiber optic illumination, using glass fibers to carry light from an external light source through a flexible light guide, then through the borescope, to the distal end.

Endoscopic Shearography and Thermography methods for non destructive evaluation of lined pressure vessels
The illumination beam should expand from the borescope to illuminate the test article within the appropriate imaging field of view with sufficiently bright and uniform intensity that the entire field of view may be recorded by the shearography camera.
The use of a commercially available borescope with an existing shearography camera that was designed to use a telephoto lens imposes the constraint that the borescope must be adapted to optically and mechanically "fit" the shearography camera.
The borescope must be supported such that performance requirements for minimization of bending and vibration are met and motion of the borescope relative to the interferometer is eliminated.

The Hawkeye borescope consists of three units: the borescope with attached eyepiece; a right angle mirror tube that slips over the borescope and rotates 360 degrees; and a Mini-Maglite light source that screws into a fitting at the eyepiece and serves as the handle.
The borescope can also be used without the rotating mirror tube, providing forward image viewing and is useful for examining the internal flashhole of a case, for example.

Some borescopes use spaced achromats and others use the Hopkins design so the objective lens forms the image from one end of the borescope to the other.
These features make the borescope a useful tool for crime investigation, but the use of so many tiny, expensive lenses and a lack of precision have limited its use.

 Colloidal Borescope tracks groundwater
When the Colloidal Borescope is inserted into a monitoring well, it directly measures the movement of naturally occurring particles in groundwater, or colloids, as they flow through a well’s screened interval, which corresponds to a distinct lithographic unit in the subsurface.
This evidence suggests that the faults are acting as preferential flow zones, which dominate the groundwater flow component and redirect the hydrocarbon contamination from the northwesterly regional flow direction to a southern direction parallel to the fault trend.
