Scipione Caffarelli Borghese, a seventeenth-century Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, was a bold and influential patron and collector of the visual arts.
Shortly after assuming the papal throne, Camillo Borghese exiled Pignatelli from Rome; according to his detractors, this was done because the closeness of Scipione's friendship with Pignatelli threatened to discredit both the papacy and the Borghese family.

 VILLA BORGHESE
Villa Borghese today in the heart of Rome, was the suburban residence of the Borghese family.
Built in 1616 by the nephew of Paul V, the Cardinal Scipio Borghese, it was surrounded by large and varied gardens, which are still populated by eagles and dragons, the heraldic symbols of the family.
In addition to their heraldic symbols the Borghese, who owned the Villa until the end of the XIXth century, decorated the gardens with little buildings in neoclassical style (here above a fake Roman temple dedicated to Emperor Antoninus Pius and his wife Annia Faustina and a round temple dedicated to Diana).

It makes a fitting antechamber to "the inner circle of heaven." In this room we can forgive all the venal sins of the 20th-century masters of the Borghese, for perhaps the most brilliant thing they did when renovating the museum was to gather up six large canvases that had formerly been scattered throughout the building.
