Boris was employed principally as a vocalist but also covered percussive instruments such as cowbells and maracas, while his light footwork found favour with him dancing the cha-cha and bossa nova to the delight of the hotel patrons.
Boris' bass was also in demand from Derrick Harriott and his Crystalites house band and Harry 'J' Johnson where he could be heard on one of the producer's biggest hits, which also moved in to the mainstream in a big way through out the UK.
Boris' bass playing was the key factor to their success with his mastery of the soul, jazz and reggae forms with equal ease, along side his professional approach to the business side of booking, recording and running a band.

The band began in 1996, when Jorge Montesino began to look for members for his METAL project in order to finish a couple of songs he had written.
At the same time the relation between the bassist and the band began to deteriorate and the vocalist began to have throat problems, which left him unable to sing for a couple of months.
Boris' little brother Julio Rodas, a guitarist for Sindersis (a power metal band) played bass until they found a replacement.

The Official History of the MIT Marching Band (1978-1984)
Because of a lack of humans, money, and psyche, the Marching Band was reorganized as an ASA activity, under the direction of John Smith, and completely without the direction of the Music Section.
The band entered the stadium disguised as members of the Yale Precision Marching Band (i.e., wearing white pants and blue sweatshirts and carrying silly instruments).
Boris, the leader and director at this point, was pleased and amused at this---the MITMB could become the world's only marching band that didn't march.

 Bobby "Boris" Pickett
By the time he was nine, he started to imitate Boris Karloff, whom he would see at the movie theatre that his father managed in Somerville, Massachusetts.
His friend and fellow band mate, Lenny Capizi suggested that the pair try to take advantage of the novelty song craze that was happening in the early sixties by writing a tune around Bobby's Karloff imitation.
Pickett also added all his own sound sound effects: the creaky door opening is a nail being pulled from a piece of wood, the boiling cauldron is Pickett blowing bubbles into a cup of water with a straw and the chains are him moving chains up and down.

Built on a Weak Spot: Boris - Pink and Some Other Things Too...
The new Boris album Pink has recently been released here in the US after seeing its initial release last year in their home land of Japan.
However, the song could go a long way to show how great this band really is. The production values might be a concern to some, as it's definitely not the cleanest and quality sounding production ever.
However, I've always found that to be a strong point for the band giving their songs an even nastier/rocking feel.

The noise that Boris brings to his “Pink” is something that swaddles the music that is contained within.
Boris can come forth and create vocals that will link the band to The Doors; in this, they sound as if they are playing tens of instruments instead of the few that are actually being played.
This is due to the fact that Boris is able to subjugate their tracks in a way that allow the band to do what they want to do every second of every track on this disc.

Boris are the only living band (with the possible exception of Electric Wizard) who have mastered the art of out-Sabbathing Black Sabbath.
This is the sound of Boris basking in the wreckage of their rock.
Fans of Boris’ metal mayhem won’t be disappointed, but in truth Feedbacker is a more pensive, reflective release, closer to Flood than Amplifier Worship, and a step further away from their rock heritage.

Boris: Pink: Pitchfork Record Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
In underground metal years, Boris are senior citizens: Their self-released debut full-length, Absolutego, dates back to 1996, and compilations were hosting their material two years prior to that.
As their timeline suggests-- or, to be more accurate, as their history makes it impossible to guess-- Boris could follow Pink with an hour of fried electro-acoustic guitar, powerbook, and piano glitches.
Japanese band brings its stoner metal-- a combination of muscular rock and abstract drone-- to the States.

 MetalReview.com - Metal Review of Sunn O))) & Boris - Altar
And while the band obviously owes a great deal of their success to the prototypal root-works laid down by the seminal Earth in the early 90s, it’s been Sunn O)))’s seemingly insistent preference to incorporate different outside collaborators from album to album that truly sets their achievements apart from their peers.
Boris’ Atsuo has a percussive style quite similar to The Melvins' Dale Crover, which isn’t at all surprising, considering his band swiped their name directly from the title of a Melvins song.
Boris is great though, so maybe this collaboration might be worth the money but I'm undecided.

That being said, Pink is one of Boris' strongest releases to date, combining a wide collection of past styles and mashing it into one mammoth of an album.
A slower paced cut that opts out of the doom/sludge area instead for a surprising melodic piece that sounds a bit MBV inspired, which ends up being quite epic as well.
However, you can't get to comfortable with it as the majority of the album dips back into the grittier and dirty Boris that many of their fans have attached themselves to.

Boris Garcia formed on a whim for the purpose of recording its debut album, Boris Garcia's Family Reunion, but a year later the band has played out quite a lot and become a more cohesive unit as a result.
But Boris Garcia is good at evoking the sound of their predecessors' folk-rock phase (think Workingman's Dead), and anyone who misses that late 1960s/early 1970s era will feel right at home at one of their gigs.
"the band that wasn't" - a cute story about how a few friends with a common love of all forms of traditional american music decided that studio time would be no more expensive a hobby than greens fees, so they pooled resources to make their first record "boris garcia's family reunion" (see center column).
