Black Sabbath the album, the song, and the band have been studied by metalheads with all the fervor accorded the Dead Sea Scrolls.
"Black Sabbath" the song starts off the not-feeling-so-fab four's 1970 debut, and from the moment that its first fearsome notes were unleashed on an unsuspecting public it has remained one of the unshakeable cornerstones of heavy metal.
What people forget about Black Sabbath -- and it's understandable given their demonic imagery and All Hallow's Eve vibe -- was that it was one of the most God-driven, puritanical, wet-blanket rock bands in history.

 Black Sabbath Online: Born Again
The Black Sabbath 'Born Again' album sleeve was designed under extraordinary circumstances; basically what had happened was that Sharon and Ozzy had split very acrimoniously from her fathers (Don Arden) management and record label.
He subsequently decided that he would wreak his revenge by making Black Sabbath (whom he managed) the best heavy metal band in the world, which, of course they are but back then in the early '80's they weren't quite the International megastars that they had been in the '70's.
I then took some fl and white photocopies of the image (the picture is credited to 'Rizzoli Press') that I overexposed, stuck the horns, nails, fangs into the equation, used the most outrageous colour combination that acid could buy, bastardised a bit of the Olde English typeface and sat back, shook my head and chuckled.

BNR Metal Pages -- Black Sabbath   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Black Sabbath is one of the oldest and most well-known metal bands of all time, but they are much more than that -- they are the single most important band in the history of heavy metal, virtually defining the genre with the eight Ozzy-era albums (Black Sabbath through Never Say Die) of the seventies.
With Ozzy Osbourne out of the band and on his own, the vocalist spot fell to Rainbow man Ronnie James Dio, and the two studio albums he did with the band injected some much-needed new life into a band that by the late seventies was showing its age.
Former Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan was an odd, interesting choice to succeed Dio, and the resulting Born Again album was inconsistent and not terribly well received, though it clearly had it's moments with songs such as "Zero The Hero".
