 DVDFILE.COM: Born Yesterday (1950) review
Like all great comedies, BORN YESTERDAY is more than just a bunch of funny lines and situations: it's thought-provoking, at some points painfully dramatic, and every moment of it rings true.
Judy Holliday is such a wonder to behold in her Oscar winning re-creation of her smashing Broadway success as Billie Dawn, it's absolutely mind-boggling to realize that she was never the first choice for the role.
BORN YESTERDAY is a wonderful film with a not-to-be-missed performance by July Holliday, and the DVD pretty much does it justice, offering a transfer that's a cut above the previous Laserdisc.

Cukor knew audiences could accept the idea that innocence could be born afresh in a "fallen woman." Billie was a "fallen woman,", but her reaction when kissed by the young journalist is virginal, as if she'd never been kissed before.
For the director, this was one of the film's charming points: Billie was born yesterday, but she was also born again.
Cukor's preparatory work for Born Yesterday was innovative: The actors rehearsed the screenplay for two weeks, then performed it before an audience drawn from studio employees.

WorldNetDaily: Was Jesus actually born yesterday?
Yesterday, millions of Christians around the world celebrated the birth of the One they believe to be the Savior of the world, the Prince of Peace, the Son of God – Jesus of Nazareth.
And while no one is quite sure exactly when Jesus was born, I believe that name may actually lend credence to the birth date of Dec. 25.
The important thing, as we Christians celebrate that birth, is that He was born – that He did come, that He later laid down His life for us and that He will come again.

And in our current climate of government by crony capitalism, "Born Yesterday" feels like a faint memory of an American idealism long ago discarded as unmanly.

It starts with the familiar idiom: For all her apparent untutored innocence, Billie "wasn't born yesterday." But given her innocence, yes, she was, reborn into the true faith in American democracy.
