DVD Review - Born On The Fourth Of July
"Born on the Fourth of July" is in and of itself a very gripping and powerful drama and fans of the film, or the director, who don’t already have one of the previous releases will probably want to pick this one up.
The real reason that Universal decided to release "Born on the Fourth of July" yet again was to take advantage of a new commentary track by director Oliver Stone who, incidentally, won the Best Director Academy Award for this film.
"Born on the Fourth of July" is in the same vein as these other films in that Stone pulls no punches in telling Kovic’s story.

Review: The Best Years of Our Lives
In recent years, numerous films have followed the struggles of Vietnam vets after their return to this country, often with major stars playing the roles (Sylvester Stallone in the Rambo series, Tom Cruise in Born on the Fourth of July, and Bruce Willis in In Country, to name a few).
The film is so involving that there's no temptation to glance at a watch, nor a need to get a snack or take a bathroom break.
And, even though the film's social relevance has diminished (it has been a quarter of a century since the last influx of war veterans), its dramatic power and impact have not lessened.

Cruise has at times been good in front of the camera (in pictures such as Born on the Fourth of July), while in other instances he has done little more than show off his good looks (Days of Thunder).
Sydney Pollack's film The Firm is the kind of movie that almost anyone could walk out on without feeling that they've missed much, regardless of whether they've read the book or not.
The film doesn't quite sink to the "unwatchable" level, but I'd think twice before spending time and money in a darkened theater with this telling of Mitch McDeere's struggles.
