	Phitsanulok - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		As the cross-road between the northern and central regions of the country, it has long been important both for political and strategic reasons, and was fought over many times in centuries past.
		Phitsanulok was the capital of Thailand for 25 years during the reign of King Borommatrailokanat of Ayutthaya.
		The city's original name was Song Kwae (two streams), since it is located at the convergence of the Nan and Noi Rivers(Kwae Noi).

	Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
		The royal palace was located here from the establishment of Ayutthaya in the reign of King Ramathibodi I (1350 A.D.) to the rign of King Sam Phraya (1448 A.D.).
		Later King Borommatrailokanat ordered a wat to be build on this site in 1448 A.D. to be used as a monastic area.
		After the reign of King Borommatrailokanat, his son King Ramathibodi II, ordered the construction for two chedis, one of which was kept the ashes of his father and the other those of his brother, King Borommarachathirat III.

		The king of the latter therefore created a complex administrative system allied to a hierarchical social system.
		This administrative system dating from the reign of King Trailok, or Borommatrailokanat (1448-1488), was to evolve into the modern Thai bureaucracy.
		The Ayutthaya bureaucracy contained a hierarchy of ranked and titled officials, all of whom had varying amounts of "honor marks" (sakdina).

		north King Borommatrailokanat ascended the throne in 1448 A.D. and having handed over the tormer palace to be used for activities related to the wat, set up his new palace in the sector north of the former royal dwelling, near the Lopburi River the northern city moat.
		The royal hall of Bencharatana Mahaprasat and Snphet Mahaprasat were built first, followed by the royal hall of Mangkhalaphisek, which was given the titel Vihan Somdet.
		The latter must have been built in a reign subsequent to that of Borommatrailokanat but evidence for this theory is not clear.

		After founding the city in 1350AD, King Ramathibodi built the royal palace here, consisting of five royal halls, and was inhabited by the Royal Family for the next 98 years.

		They broke into gleeful seizures when I attempted the names of Thai kings (Borommatrailokanat, Phumintharacha, Athittayawong, Chao Fa Sri Saowaphak, Intharacha, Nakharinthrathirat).
		This friction continued for over a century until King Borommatrailokanat (Trailok) finally defeated Sukhothai once and for all.
		As each enemy was overthrown by warfare, new architectural styles and forced laborers were brought back to Ayutthaya.

		Although it wasn't listed on our itinerary, I think the next place we went was Wat Phra Sri San Phet.
		Interesting note: King Trailok, or Borommatrailokanat (1448-1488) created various governmental ministries.
		This system evolved into the modern Thai bureaucracy.
