The Boronda Adobe was built by José Eusebio Boronda between 1844 and 1848 in the grasslands of the lower Salinas Valley.
Boronda's Adobe differs from other adobes in its wood-shingled roof which slopes 4 ways (rather than red clay tiles), a wide, open veranda completely encircling the house, white-washed, open beamed ceilings and two indoor fireplaces with carved wood mantle pieces.
Boronda's original grant from the Mexican government was for 6,700 acres.

José Eusebio Boronda, the third son of Manuel Boronda and Maria Gertrudes Higuera to survive infancy, was born in early 1801.
When the claim of Boronda to this land was finally confirmed and the U.S. Patent issued July 13, 1860, the name became Rancho Rincón del Sanjón and it had been reduced in size to 2,229.70 acres, or about one-half of a Spanish league.
A new town was being born to the east of the Boronda ranch, along the banks of the Sanjon del Alisal in the years 1867-1874.

At any rate, redevelopment funding is available and is going to continue to be available to the Boronda community, and the Monterey County Board of Supervisors has established a Citizens Advisory Committee, to help develop, and then implement, a community plan for Boronda, using redevelopment funds.
