Thus, for Eastern Samar, she was happy to note that it held the first ever Provincial Anti-Poverty Summit, where the province’s top priority problems were given attention to.
Before she even went to Borongan City for the Founding Anniversary Celebration of the Province, the President inspected first the P20M road project in Jipapad, the tip most town which is one of the most depressed areas of the province.

The board passed an ordinance on mining and logging ban in October in response to the clamor of environmental groups to protect the forests of the province, which suffered from the devastating floods in 1989 due to illegal logging.
Eastern Samar is the second province in Eastern Visayas to pass such an ordinance.
Last September, the Samar provincial board passed the ordinance that imposes a 50-year moratorium on the conduct of large-scale mining operations in the province.
