Owen Massey - Libraries - Erotic fiction in Borsetshire Libraries
Borsetshire Library Authority serves the villages and four main towns of Borsetshire, a total population of 500,000, of whom 60% have a library ticket.
This report argues that it is a disservice to the public not to represent its tastes and proposes that a broad selection of erotica should be bought as an experiment and its use monitored during a trial period.
Libraries in Borsetshire which are not yet computerised must rely on circulation staff to check the ticket at the point of issue.

The Archers   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
The Archers is the world's longest running radio soap opera, one fifteen-minute episode having been transmitted each weekday on the BBC Light Programme and subsequently the BBC Home Service (now BBC Radio 4) since 1 January 1951.
An "everyday story of countryfolk", it is set in the fictional Midlands village of Ambridge close to Borchester, the county town of Borsetshire: an imaginary shire situated in vague proximity to the real city of Birmingham in the West Midlands.
Ambridge itself is sometimes said to be based upon the village of Inkberrow in Worcestershire.

The cathedral city and administrative centre of Felpersham dominates the east of the county and the second largest settlement is the market town Borchester.
Ambridge lies south-east of the Hassett Hills and falls under South Borsetshire District Council.
The main local newspapers are the Felpersham Advertiser and the Borchester Echo and the area is served by Radio Borsetshire.

There is also a road map of north Borsetshire showing all the main towns and villages from Felpersham to Penny Hassett and Loxley Barrett to Hollerton.
The Ambridge and Borsetshire District Map is a “must have” for all lovers of Radio 4’s “The Archers”.

The South Borsetshire Hunt - Boxing Day meet
Despite the parliamentary cloud that is hanging over hunting at the moment, there was a great deal of joviality as the South Borsetshire Hunt assembled outside The Bull at Ambridge for their traditional Boxing Day Meet.
With more than forty riders and around three hundred supporters (some of whom had travelled from as far away as Birmingham) assembled to drink Alun Michael’s health, there was plenty of action for hosts Sid and Joleen Perks and their staff.
He seemed to know exactly where we would have chosen to ride and he gave those children the thrill of a lifetime.

An Everyday Story of Country Folk
The stories centre on the Archer family, who live and farm in the fictional English village of Ambridge, in the equally fictional county of Borsetshire.
(Geographically, Borsetshire must be somewhere in the west Midlands, as characters regularly pay visits to the real life counties of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Shropshire.) Dan and Doris Archer were the hub for the stories in the beginning.
As time went by, the mantle passed to Phil and his wife Jill, and in the last few year, it has passed again to their their son David and his wife Ruth.

The Archers - Various links and two maps
Ambridge in Borsetshire exists in a geo-magnetic anomaly, which bends the space-time continuum in a similar manner to that found at Lake Wobegone in America's Mid-West.
Maps do not always show these anomalies as the curvature of the earth's surface at these points makes map drawing extremely complicated, and cartographers prefer to not bother, thus saving themselves a lot of time and effort.
Residents of Borsetshire, the county in which Ambridge is located, also have their own newsgroup uk.local.borsetshire, however this newsgroup is not currently avaialble on some servers as for some reason the uk.* hierarchy newsgroup committee refuse even to allow discussion of the validity of this group.

So being sent back to England to continue her education at a strict girl's boarding school in Bath was a culture shock.
After leaving Bristol University, where she spent more time running a post-punk nightclub and hanging out with her future husband than studying Latin, she worked on The Archers, where her duties ranged from supervising the recording of new sound effects to giving guided tours of Borsetshire.
From there she went to Central Television to become a script editor for Crossroads.
